​​Rev. Josh S. Brewer, Assistant Minister for Community Missions
Rev. Joshua S. Brewer joined the staff in September of 2015 as Assistant Minister for Community Missions.  He grew up along the Gulf Coast in Gulfport, Mississippi.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Mississippi College in 2000 and graduated from George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University in Waco, Texas with a Master of Divinity in Mission and World Christianity.

Currently Rev. Brewer teaches high school religion, journalism, and yearbook.  Since college, Rev. Brewer has been involved in some sort of ministry.  He was a four-year summer staffer at Gulfshore Baptist Assembly in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and served on M-Fuge staffs for six years, three of which he served as camp pastor.  He has been on multiple mission trips to places in the U.S. and to Mexico, Bolivia, Kenya, Rwanda, and India.  He has also served as a church worship leader and been the main speaker at state level college gatherings.

Rev. Brewer is married to Nicki Brewer, and they have two children. 

Rev. James Richardson, Interim Organist and Choir Director

James Richardson is back on the organ bench as Interim Organist and Choir Director.  James retired in 2013 after 41 years at First Baptist. 

Karen Jerald, Church Coordinator

Karen is the reliable, delightful, and long serving financial secretary.  She keeps the financial accounts and does other administrative tasks.  She is a proud grandmother and great-grandmother.

Erika Bell, Custodian

Erika joined the staff in 2017 as full time custodian.  Previously she worked as a custodian at schools and as a mover.  She is hardworking and a vital part of our staff and church life.

Former Staff

Dr. John Finley, formerly Senior Minister, left in 2017 to be the Executive Director of the Baptist History and Heritage Society.


Rev. Lauren Colwell, formerly Minister for Children, Families, and Spiritual Formation, left in 2017 for a similar position at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia.

Kyle J. Ballentine, formerly Organist and Choir Master, left in 2019 for a similar position at Binkley Baptist Church in North Carolina.
