First Baptist Church is a welcoming congregation. We believe Jesus treated everyone with a spirit of love and equality. Therefore, we accept every individual without regard to age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status. We affirm all persons as created in the image of God.

Worship and Music

Worship at FBCSAV is, in a word, reverent.  Music is centered around the organ and adult choir.  Ministers wear robes and stoles to match the liturgical calendar.  Preaching is based in readings from the Revised Common Lectionary.  Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month.  The seasons of the church year are observed with special services.  Advent is a particularly wonderful time for music at FBCSAV.

Congregational Life

The church operates out of two buildings.  The Sanctuary building includes a large worship space, 56-rank organ, a lower chapel, offices, classrooms, and storage.  The educational building, located behind the Sanctuary across Whitaker Street, is a four-story structure housing offices, Lewis Hall (fellowship hall), large kitchen, library, nursery, music rehearsal areas, and classrooms.  A gated courtyard including a playground completes the block.  The church owns a small parking lot on Hull Street across from the Educational building.
