Missions and Ministries

First Baptist Church is a diverse congregation representing many different views on a variety of subjects, including denominational support for missions beyond the local church.  First Baptist Church supports ministries such as Family Promise, Emmaus House, Congregations in Service, Savannah Baptist Center, Morningstar Children and Family Services, McAfee School of Theology, Nurturing Faith/Baptists Today, and Passport Camp.

Some of our members direct their denominational mission support through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, while others may choose the Alliance of Baptists, or the Baptist World Alliance.  All are united in the belief that God calls us to reach out to the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to minister to persons in need.

Various members of the congregation are involved in the following mission activities:

  • Congregations in Service - local interfaith service event twice a year

  • Grace and Glory - women’s group who supports a variety of ministries

  • Emmaus House - cooperating congregations providing breakfast, showers, and laundry to homeless

  • Family Promise - cooperating congregations providing homeless families with lodging and meals in church buildings

  • Celebrating Families - providing weekly dinner and meeting space for families in cooperation with the court system

  • Jonathan and Tina Bailey - CBF Field Personnel in Indonesia ministering through art, and members of FBCSAV

  • Morningstar Children and Family Services - providing residential, foster care, and mental health services to children and youth with multiple diagnoses often including intellectual disabilities.

  • Fraternity of Baptists in Cuba, particularly our sister congregation in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba.
