Rev. John Callaway
John was born and raised in Boiling Springs, SC. After graduating from Clemson University in 2005 with an undergraduate degree in Industrial Education, John completed a Master of Secondary Education degree in 2007. John taught in the Charleston area of South Carolina at Westview Middle School for two years before answering the call to ministry and heading to the Wake Forest University School of Divinity.
While studying at Wake Forest, John met Katie Schlimmer and life took off! After serving at First Baptist Church, Greenville, SC, John and Katie have ministered together at First Baptist Church, Carrollton, GA, University Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD, and First Baptist Church, High Point, NC. In each congregation, John has participated in ministry with all of the generations represented in the church. Since 2007, John has been involved in leading the music at Unidiversity Youth Camp and has led in music for worship in churches and for student groups across the country.
John is ready to begin ministering alongside the wonderful people of First Baptist Church and begins work in this new ministry setting with excitement. John feels called to Co-Pastor alongside Katie as they work to amplify each other’s gifts. In his role as Co-Pastor, he is most excited about building relationships with the congregation and community through worship, administration, and outreach.
He is incredibly grateful for his calling to First Baptist Church Savannah and can’t wait for the Callaway family, including their daughter, Sophie, and dog, Lily, to be strolling through the Spanish Moss.
